Speaking Volumes, a book, record, and ephemera store will be opening soon in Randolph. We went to their soft open on the way home from Town Meeting. They were still getting set up, putting up shelving and moving things around, but they did have a nice spead of wine and cheese and snacks, as well as a friendly crew of folks who said they really liked Randolph!
Speaking Volumes is an existing store in Burlington which is opening a branch here. Store owner Norbert Ender bought the old grain mill building at 10 North Main and envisions a busy building with many different clothing and crafts vendors including local artisans. In their own words, "a curated blend of books, records, vintage clothing, antiques, and locally made products." Read more about their plans in the Randolph Herald.
It was really fun to get to be in a local record store and dig around in various crates that had both fancy and esoteric vinyl as well as five-dollar grab bag type stuff. One of the people I spoke with said they were considering also offering stereo repair (there was a lovely vintage receiver on display) but it was too early to make any solid plans.
"Anything in the boxes or drawers is for sale!" they said and I nibbled on cheese and flipped through assortments of Currier & Ives prints and a really wide assortment of used books tantalizingly displayed on a library shelving cart. I considered myself lucky that I came home with only two new-to-me records.
Keep an eye peeled for their grand opening as well as their celebration "sometime this spring" featuring Burlington rock legends Rough Francis.
